賽輪 Sailun - Atrezzo ZSR 高性能輪胎 High Performance Tyre

係Tyrehood網上面最經濟型既輪胎, 一定會係賽輪呢個牌子.

其實(中國)賽輪已經都可以話係有名既牌子, 因為一早已經做出口係其他國家到賣. 賽輪都係其中一個, 係咁多年入面熱賣既牌子.

早幾年我地都有裝到20寸既賽輪係部Benz vito 輕型貨車到, 但當時我並冇紀錄底任何資料. 最近買左部二手車本身諗住用黎寫program debug 用, 就順道裝埋賽輪又寫下打手報告.

執左部車少少野之後最近先可以行一行高速再次感覺一下ZSR.

對比之前用過, 同埋用緊既 Dunlop, 係有唔同既. 但對比原先買番黎個兩條(非中國製)既呔, 我就感覺唔到有咩唔同. (包括聲音, 咬地性能), 可能我行得唔夠快?

岩岩最近落雨即時走上高速行番轉, 係法例規定內行駛既速度, ZSR 都行得好好.
睇黎要再遲啲先試到, 再行快啲個陣既體驗. 因為最近實在太多車, 又塞車. 




越黎越多牌子進口到香港, 不少都係中國製輪胎. 但歷史都有咁上下既賽輪都有歐盟label

Talking about the most economical tyre sold in the Tyrehood product list is undoubted the Sailun brand.

Sailun is actually a well-known brand (manufacture in China) that sold around the world. It is also one of the hot sale products chosen by customers, including private vehicle, light goods vehicle, and heavy goods vehicle.

Few years back we installed sailun R20 size on the light goods vehicle but I did not record down any data on it. This time, I got these two to install on the recently bought vehicle (in which is supposed to be used for ECU programming)

Some issues with the recently bought vehicle that I need to DIY to replace some worn parts (T.T) so I couldn't go on highway at first. Hope there aren't any more issues after fixing. But I drive around the area and the first impression is:

 "there is difference between the dunlop that I tried before, perhaps because of the size and vehicle model, but I dun feel the difference with this Sailun ZSR and the previous tyres (not made in China) "

On a rainy day at high way, ZSR are still up to expectation within legal speed limit. 
For higher speed experience, I am still waiting for chances when there are fewer vehicles on the road. (there are just too many cars and congestion on a highway recently )



More brands imported to HK and many are Made in China. Undoubtedly sailun also had eu label standard.

Dunlop 輪胎 - Sport Maxx 050+ 高性能輪胎 High Performance Tyre

又係打手出黎時間

如果只係香港市場去睇, 好多人想揀高性能輪胎都會偏向揀番 (個幾個) 大牌子既輪胎. 但係 Dunlop 高性能系列入面既 SP Sport Maxx 會令人有所改觀. 特別平時有部分人成日話Dunlop 麻麻地.

幾年前 Dunlop 香港 既 Sport Maxx 050+ 做左個超級大優惠. (應該唔會再有, 我都想佢再有). 所以趁機都買左兩條自用. (又係用係 Toyota Estima)

玩左差唔多兩年. 
050+ 乾濕地, 落雨天, 咬地力, 剎車性能依然一流(有feel). 渡過四季, 瀑雨, 風球都仲好行. 

可惜唔係所有尺寸都有. R16 只有少部分, 都係R17 及以上先有得揀 Sport Maxx 050+

雖然某程度上都有少少嘈音, 但我平時開車都會聽radio 或者音樂, 所以呢方面我就唔係好覺有太大影響. 用係歐洲車到既話相信嘈音都唔會係一個問題.

其實用落真係唔錯. 都係覺得各位值得一試. 

1) 舒適: 用得高性能呔都唔會諗住想要咩舒適感.
2) 聲音: 少嘈係正常. 唔想就當然要揀 Dunlop 既靜音呔 LM705
3) 濕地: 行足 100km/h 我自己就冇問題, (行到110 我就未試過. 反而我用大陸呔我就試過). 始終載人既7人車自己都唔會開快.
4) 耐用度: 咬地既呔通常都係冇咁耐磨. 但呢對都玩左2年. 




今日050+ 玩到退役, 換左都係 Dunlop 兩條頂級性能既 Maxx RT2. 又係趁Dunlop 出優惠既時候買既  Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2. 行左轉既 first impression... 原來頂級真係有分別. 可惜冇乜人識欣賞. 唯有留番黎俾自己人玩.

When it comes to choosing high performance tyre, people tends to go for a more well known brand in the Hong Kong market. But the high performance tyre category (SP Sport Maxx) may change your impressions on its high performance category. (I don't know why some people have a bad impression on Dunlop)


Few years back, Dunlop HK has a GREAT promotion (which I do not think it will happen again) on Sport Max 050+. I took the opportunity to buy 2 for myself and installed on the vehicle (once again, it's the Toyota Estima)

These two lasted for two years.

And they do not disappoint. The 050+ traction, cornering, and braking distance are excellent. (Tested under the legal limit on the high way, I couldnt' say I drive over 160km/h right, nah I don't.) They even went through heavy rain and typhoon. Unfortunately this product model is limited to a few sizes for R16, and more stocks for R17 and above.

If you are looking for high performance tyre, and have never tried the 050+ product before, this is one of the products that you should try it out, whether it's 2 qty, or 4 qty.


1) Comfort: You should think of comfort and high performance to be invert correlated.

2) Sound: A slight noise is normal. Otherwise you should choose Dunlop LM705

3) Raining Experience: Driving up to 100km/h has no issue for me. Never try 110 before but I did it on the China brand tyre. Afterall the 7 passenger vehicle is commonly used for more people aboard.

4) Wear:  Traction is also invert correlated to wear. Afterall these two lasted for 2 years. It is considered quite a long mileage to me


Now these 050+ is finally worn off and got to change another new pair. The Sport Maxx RT2, 215/55 R17, to replace the Maxx 050+. 

yea, the Maxx RT2  has a promotion recently for this size. After driving for a round, I realize there is really a difference between Max performance, and high performance for the Dunlop category.

OBD2 Scanning System 汽車電腦掃描

總算黎到最後一個步驟既(first) project. 用左太耐既時間去研究點寫個程式出黎. 

(skip 呢個 paragraph 如果您知咩係OBD2)

 OBD2 其實係一個方法去讀取汽車電腦. 汽車電腦係成部車既"腦", 控制, 計算, 及安排汽車既協調. 汽車電腦都會存您既行駛紀錄. 如果部車有咩問題, 汽車電腦就會發出信息令到部車既錶版燈著去提示駕駛者有關問題出現. 您都可以利用電腦接駁汽車電腦去check 個問題. 

要詳細去講解有關OBD2 同埋汽車電腦, 就咁寫幾百頁都應該唔夠. 但現時其實有好多只係for 興趣既人都自己整番個 program 去讀取汽車電腦.

現時市場上都有大量既 OBD2 汽車電腦掃描系統. 由非常之平既 HK$10 一粒, 去到非常之貴既 HK$10萬以上一部. 至於佢地各方面有咩唔同我就唔知啦. 不過我自己就試過買粒平平地既諗住玩下, 點知粒野唔岩部車用. 但最後自己都成功左寫左段code 係部車2007 Toyota Estima 拎data.

能夠成功地接駁住汽車電腦, 就能成功連繫住現時既 Tyrehood Zone 應用程式. 利用兩者就能得到汽車數據, 了解更多有關自己部車同埋自己. 就算您唔識睇呢堆data, 我都可以解釋到俾您聽. (因為我前身就係 business analyst, 直到而家都仲係)

當然 data 唔止係我想要既野 😏. OBD2 都可以用黎發出信息俾汽車電腦, 如重置汽車電腦去番原廠模式 或者係 處理好問題後熄左個錶版上既問題燈.

It finally comes to the end of the (first) project. Or rather, the end stage of the beginning. It took me way longer than expected to come to this stage. I am alone working on all IT projects as well as other operations. (Reminiscing about the past working with colleagues)


(skip this paragraph if you know what's it, just an introduction on OBD2 in general)

 Back to the topic on OBD2 scanning,  it serves to read the car computer data. The car computer is the brain of the vehicle that controls, calculates and works on your vehicle coordination, and store your journey along the way. If there is anything wrong with your vehicle, the car computer triggers the light (flashing or continuously on) on your car board to warn you something is wrong. You plug in a device to the car OBD2 and read what the computer is trying to tell you.

There is a lot to explain about OBD2 and car computing in a technical way. OBD2 has come to a very long journey and a lot of hobbyist are playing around with it using their vehicles. There are other discussions and arguments on the future of OBD2, but as at this moment, OBD2 can still be played around with.

There are lots of OBD2 scanner device in the market. The cheaper ones (HK$10) to a very expensive one (over HK$100k above). I got no answer on what are the differences between these products, but I bought a cheap one that actually do not work on my car (ops...). Thankfully I still manage to get the code going and get what I wanted on the 2007 Toyota Estima. 

I called this the final stage of my first project, because I need to connect the "brain" of the vehicle to my existing Tyrehood Zone application. With that you get to know yourself better driving your vehicle by looking at your own data. Even if you do not know how to look at the data, I can still explain those data to you. (I was a business analyst afterall, and still doing it today)

Of course data is not the only thing I want. 😏 With OBD2, it's not just receiving data, but sending out data as well such as resetting the car computer (in the case of error code occurs). 



This project is still in a beginning stage but I am looking forward to moving in a more advanced level, and open to share this work to people who are interested in working on obd2. (only if you are developing on it). I dun see many working on it in Hong Kong, but Let's keep in touch if you are working on OBD2. Feel free to invite me if you have a community sharing too.

迫力鉗噴漆 Brake Caliper Painting (DIY)

今日係 OBD2 project 一大突破. Depress 左成個月解決唔到既問題終於有啲眉目. 其實呢一大突破只係暫時搵到一個新方向. 希望之後會好順利.

為左係depress 其間冇咁depress, 我決定玩左一玩噴鉗.


今次實驗又係另一樣想試下到底噴完之後可以玩到幾耐. 下圖就係幾日前岩岩噴完既效果. 暫時未見有即時啡番既現象. 睇落我自己就覺得唔錯啦. 



噴鉗就好簡單, 買噴漆, 拆左個轆出黎之後再搵野包住個迫力碟再噴就搞點.

但所需時間就要長啲啦, (因為要等一等佢乾). 我就用左3個鐘頭左右先裝番個轆. 


等多一年左右, 再上載相睇睇一年後既效果.

Finally manage to get a breakthrough in OBD2 project. Over the month I am at a state of depress, almost reaching the limit, and finally manage to get a new direction to proceed. Hope it is gonna to be smooth for the rest of the steps.

During the depression period, I decide to paint the brake caliper to relax a bit. 

This will be another experiment to find out how long can the coloring last after spraying to a different colour. (image below) It is the effect of painting after a few days. (It looks pretty great to me in my opinion)

Simply take out the wheel, cover up the brake disc, and spray the caliper. That's all you need to do. 

But it is the time to let it dry that eats your time. I waited for around 3 hours and install the wheel back.


Let's wait for another year to see how it will look like.

Pirelli 輪胎 - Cinturato P7 (p7c)

安裝尺寸: 225/50 R17

部車原裝尺寸係用緊 215/55 R17. 但我將佢轉為 225/50 R17. 放置於前行駛. 




1) 舒適: 如果用開, 或者有用到一排高性能呔, 用p7c係feel 到個行車舒適感覺. 
2) 聲音: 睇每個人既感覺. 屋企人就覺得對呔行駛時係靜的. 我自己就唔係太感覺到, 因為我行車好鐘意聽music / radio, 
3) 濕地: 由新呔直到現在, 濕地行駛冇問題. 雨天時行駛感覺到渣既實在感. 唔係飛下飛下. 而直到現時都冇客有complaint 呢條呔
4) 耐用度: 至於耐用度.... 會唔會太耐用左少少? 估計都仲有排先可以用完呢對 p7c.

(The rear is using 215/55 R17 Dunlop Sport Maxx 050+, which will be commented in the future. It's also another very nice performing tyre.)

The original size for the car is 215/55 R17 but I change it to 225/50 R17 and placed it in front.




1) Comfort: After driving high performance tyre for some time, it is easy to feel the comfort of the tyre that it gives to the driver and passenger. 
2) Sound: Due to different people sensitivity, I couldn't comment much on the tyre sound but my family members comment that it is definitely quieter than before.
3) Raining Experience: Even up till now, the tyres have no problem during (heavy) rainy season. 
4) Wear:  I dun feel like commenting about the long mileage that p7c has. The usage of p7c seems to be longer than expected. It looks like it will take some time to wear off these tyres.

呔鈴噴漆 DIY (Rim Spraying)

每一次去到呢啲時間都係最辛苦既時間, 因為Year end processing 又黎了. 😭 


好在較早前手痕又想試下啲野, 唔想用咁多錢但又想改下呔鈴, 用左最簡單既做法就係噴漆啦.


(因應尺寸及呔鈴款會有所改變) 4支噴漆 (for 呢個case, 其實最好係5支).

所需時間, 我實際上分開左4日去整. Sadly 我一直冇時間一次過搞. 如果綜合應該一次過搞既話會用到4個小時至少. 

由於我係拆呔出黎噴鈴的, 所以都試左係第一次裝拆呔既情況下唔會因為車呔同呔鈴既磨擦而甩色. 當然我都幫過唔少客裝拆呔時, 發現有部分客拎左噴完既鈴黎裝呔, 一裝呔, 有一少部分呔鈴位就已經甩色. 係咪因為噴漆既問題, 定係手工既問題, 呢個我就冇data, 唔知啦.


噴完後到底可以last 幾耐呢? 其實我都唔知, 因為我都係岩岩玩左兩個月. 但我自己認為, 可以玩到至少一年既話, 其實已經好好. 您睇下出面有幾多車新買番黎既呔鈴, 可以玩到幾耐, 發現鈴面同鈴邊都花晒?




我會每隔幾個月都會繼續更新呢個post, 上載番隔一排之後既相, 睇下到底噴漆可以玩到幾耐先會甩色.

Every year at this period of time is the most cumbersome period due to year end processing

😭 


Earlier this year, I attempted to try something within a very small budget to change something about the car. So I decided to do some spraying to the rim, which is the easiest way to change the appearance.



(The number of spray varies according to rim size and style) I use 4 can of spray for this case. It is better to get 5 can of spray actually.

It took me four separate days to complete all the rims as I do not have much time to  do it in one go. If I were to accumulate the timing, it will probably take at least 4 hours to spray all 4 rims simultaneously.


As I dismount the tyre to spray the rim, I have tested that the spray did not fall off or diminish upon mounting the tyre (as the tyre may rub off the spray upon contact with the rim side). 

However, there were cases in which the spray indeed got rub off  slightly by the tyre upon mounting when some of our customers brought their newly painted rim to our store to install the tyres. I am unsure if it is due to the spray quality, or the work done to the rim.


How long could it last? I dun know. This thing has been with me for 2 months now, and it still looks great. In my opinion, if it last for at least a year, it worths the price and time spent. Afterall, how many cars (did you see) which have their new rims installed, got stratches at the surface and at the side?

Battery - life span


"How long can a battery last"

"Is there any cheap and long lasting battery"

are two often commonly asked questions raised by most customers.


And commonly replied by most of the technicans,  "around two years", and "get a made in EU battery or made in Japan battery" 


"Average two years" results came from different suppliers in the market. 



To obtain the battery consumption data takes at least a year. It is still difficult to tell how long exactly can a battery last, and most of the time I will still say around 2 years.

 "有冇平靚正, 耐用既電"

都係最常問既問題

其實現時回答都會係, 2年左右, 歐洲電囉, 日本電囉要耐用既話.


兩年左右既意思, 係大約兩年. 唔少車主好似會自己 filter 左個 "左右" 既意思係後面. 

"平均兩年" 係多年來由唔同既供應商經市場上所銷售既數據計算出. 呢個數係 "拉curve". 



作為使用者既您, 會係拉向左邊, 定係拉向右邊? 


由於電池都起碼用到一年, 要收集唔同既數據都需時, 所以我都會通常跟番出面大家咁講, 大約兩年左右, 但至於實際既情況, 請Tyrehood 既客戶另外向我查詢或可以係 Tyrehood Zone 既apps 入面睇到有關講解.

Car Battery - How to get one suitable for your car

By knowing the three different types of battery (normal startup battery, EFB and AGM), the next step will be selecting an appropriate one for your car.


1. Japanese / Korean manufactured vehicle (non-hybrid)

Simply open up the front hood and take a look at the battery label. The size (and specification) of the battery is written on top. Take note of the last two numbers and one letter that follows.



e.g. This Acdelco S80D26LH. The last two numbers is 26 followed by L (26L).

Lastly, check out if your vhielce has iStop function, and whether you are using it or not. If you are using iStop function, get EFB or AGM battery.

If you wanna check out the price of the battery, type (in this case) 26L, or simply check out the price at different retail store on your own by mentioning this size battery. (if you need a EFB or AGM, you need to mention it as well, otherwise it will be regarded as normal startup battery)

2. EU manufacture vehicle  (non-hybrid)

Some brands such as Volkswagen , the battery location is at the front. Others like BMW is located at the rear (rear bonnet)

The size of these vehicle battery can normally be referred by its Ah value (especially in the case of the original battery). However, after market battery can be difficult to judge the size by referring the Ah value, as there are range of Ah offered by different battery brands.

So, the best way is to get the width and length of the battery, and check out whether you got an iStop function

3.  Japanese / Korean manufactured vehicle (hybrid)

Besides the very high voltage battery (which is around 220V) that the hybrid car has, there is another startup battery to get the car engine on.

The location of the battery is different for different brands. Some located at the front, some located at the bottom of the seat, some located at the rear.

If the battery is located at the front, that is a good news. Not only you can check the battery model easily, the size of the battery is normally (or commonly) be found in the market.

But for those that located differently, it is cumbersome to find exactly the same size of the battery.



An example of the hybrid car used battery, which looks like a square size. But most commonly sold batteries are rectangle size in Hong Kong.


4. EU manufacture vehicle  (hybrid)

Haven't seen one yet.



The size of the battery market is small. Hence there are very few brands you could choose. With the increasing number of hybrid cars and different sizes required, there could be a day when there is only one or two brands available for you to choose.

汽車電池 - 如何選擇岩裝既電池 Car Battery - How to get one suitable for your car

搵岩電裝主要睇: (1)電池製造標準, (2) 尺寸, (3) 電池類別 (4) 電池頭位置

(1) 電池製造標準 DIN/EN vs JIS

DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), 我直接叫佢做德國標準. 而家應該好多都改為 EN (European) 歐盟 標準. 通常歐洲牌子汽車都跟用 DIN/EN 標準電池. 部分日製/韓製汽車都會使用 DIN 標準電池 (睇下圖).

橙色圈住個兩個電池頭位置係凹左入去. 代表該電池係DIN 標準

JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) 日本標準 (睇下圖), 只會出現係非歐洲製汽車. 

紅色圈住個兩個電池頭位置係平列於電池面. 代表該電池係JIS 標準


(2) 尺寸, 電池類別, 電池頭位置

如果係 DIN 標準, 請看 B

如果係 JIS 標準, 請看 A


A) JIS 標準: 日本車/韓國車

呢款車比較簡單, 開頭蓋搵番粒電池, 留意一下電池上面既 label 係寫住咩型號. (因為電池尺寸既型號就係代表住電池既尺寸. 留意番電池型號, 最後2位數字及之後既一個英文字母.)



用電池標籤上的字或電池尺寸判斷更換既電池

👀e.g. 呢款既 Acdelco S80D26LH. 最後兩位數字係 26 及 L (26L).


如果睇唔到電池上標籤就直接用尺度長度就可以. (如果正極 (+) 電池頭位置係左邊, 代表 L )
e.g. 大約 19cm -> 19L / 20L, 大約 24cm -> 24L, 大約 23cm -> 23L 等等

👀最後要知部車是否需要用 EFB 或 AGM, 就係睇番自己部車有冇 iStop 功能啦. 特別係二手車, 上手可能有機會換左普通電池但係自己又keep 住用 iStop, 所以最好都係睇番部車自己既功能.


B) DIN標準: 歐洲車或部分 日/韓製電動車

有啲牌子如 Volkswagen , 電池係位於車頭位置. BMW 電池位置係車尾箱.

用AH 或電池尺寸判斷更換既電池

👂可以利用電池上既 Ah 數去refer 番. 特別係原裝電池. 因為尺寸通常一樣. 但係二手車有曾經換過既電就比較難以利用 Ah 數去refer 尺寸. 

或最好既方法, 就係搵把尺度一度長度及寬度, 如果部車有上高既扣位需要另外度埋高度.
之後再睇番部車駛唔駛用到 iStop 功能

👂於電池上睇是否有EFB/AGM 字眼, 或於車上睇有沒有iStop 功能

DIN標準正極 (+) 電池頭位置永遠在左邊

歐洲車就只需要呢兩樣野就可以搵到相對既電池.



C. 日本車/韓國車 ( Hybrid 油同電既混能)

Hybrid 除左本身自己有粒 (好似係 220V ? ) 既電去行部車之外, 另外都仲有一粒起動電池. 呢粒電池就係用黎撻著部車.
每一個牌子既電池位置都唔同. 有啲照樣放係車前面位置, 有啲放係座椅下, 有啲放左係車尾.


如果粒電係放係您部車既前面, 咁就太好啦. 您可以好易睇得番粒電既型號. 照番住第一個point 所講既搵番電就ok 啦. 

但係如果您粒電係座位下面, 或者係車尾既話就麻煩啦. 因為最驚既係, 搵唔到岩您用既電池尺寸.

因為香港市面上銷售既電池牌子已經不多. 如果連尺寸都唔係跟大隊既話, 仲更加難搵.



一向見開既長方型電池, 突然變左正方型咁既尺寸. 


D. 歐洲車 (hybrid)

暫時未見過. 仲未答到大家.

Q1) 如果部車係用緊普通電池, 可唔可以轉用 EFB/AGM 電池? 
可以的. 但加強左電池款唔代表粒電池可以耐用過普通個粒. 個個人使用方法唔同. 有啲可能更有效, 有啲就無用. 您問我可唔可以轉EFB/AGM, 當然一定可以, 但如果您係新客, 問我可以用幾耐, 我話我個friend 部 09年 Toyota Sienta 用5年都未駛換, 我啲熟客有部用左2年幾都仲用緊, 但另外兩部就2年左右就要換. (佢地個個都有指定時間過黎俾我check 下車), 我俾個大約數您, 其實都係 
冇可能準. 

順帶一提, 如果您想普通電池改為 EFB/AGM, (應該係所有, 汽油車) 日本車如果係用緊 JIS (日本)標準係只有EFB 係市場上供應. 如果您用日本車想換歐洲版本既AGM 電池, 我建議唔好咁做.


Q2) 原配係 EFB 電池, 可唔可以改用 AGM ?

可以. 不過AGM 電貴過EFB 電池唔少. 如果改用AGM 係唔係真係岩, 您自己決定了.


Q3) 原配係 EFB 可唔可以轉普通?

有啲情況下其實係可以的. 但要自己留意有啲野先每日都要開車前做.


Q4)原配係AGM 電池可唔可以轉EFB / 普通?

我未試過, 我唔知.

At tyrehood, you can use different ways to find your battery

By knowing the three different types of battery (normal startup battery, EFB and AGM), the next step will be selecting an appropriate one for your car. If you are uncertain about these three types of batteries, check out the link here for detail.

To find suitable battery for yourself, use the following:

 (1)Battery manufacture standard, (2) Size, (3) Type of battery (4) + terminal battery location

(1) Battery standard DIN/EN vs JIS

DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung), German standard for manufacture battery but it's now move forward with EN standard (European) . All Western manufactured vehicles comes with DIN/EN standard battery as well as some of the Japanese/Korean manufactured brands. (see picture below)


Terminal heads circled in orange are NOT at the top of the battery (see the picture below for compaison)

JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) Japanese standard (see picture below). Only available to non Western manufactured vehicles

Circled in red terminal heads are at the top of the battery (JIS standard)

(2) 尺寸, 電池類別, 電池頭位置

A) Japanese / Korean manufactured vehicle

Simply open up the front hood and take a look at the battery label. The size (and specification) of the battery is written on top. Take note of the last two numbers and one letter that follows.

Refer the label or battery size to determine the right battery

👀 e.g. This Acdelco S80D26LH. The last two numbers is 26 followed by L (26L).

or

Measure the Length of the battery to determine. Let's say the positive (+) terminal head is at the left, which implies (L) 
e.g. around 19-20cm -> 19L, around 24cm -> 24L, around 23cm -> 23L etc.

👀Lastly, check out if your vhielce has iStop function, and whether you are using it or not. If you are using iStop function, get EFB or AGM battery.

If you wanna check out the price of the battery, type (in this case) 26L, or simply check out the price at different retail store on your own by mentioning this size battery. (if you need a EFB or AGM, you need to mention it as well, otherwise it will be regarded as normal startup battery)


B) DIN/EN standard: Western manufacture vehicle / some Korean or Japanese manufactured vehicle

Some brands such as Volkswagen , the battery location is at the front. Others like BMW is located at the rear (rear bonnet)

Use AH value or battery size to determine the battery model

👂 Referred the battery AH value (especially in the case of the original battery). However, after market battery can be difficult to judge the size by referring the Ah value, as there are range of Ah offered by different battery brands.


So, the best way is to get the width and length of the battery, and check out whether you got an iStop function

👂 Check out if  EFB/AGM these words appear on your battery label or whether the vehicle has iStop function.

3.  Japanese / Korean manufactured vehicle (hybrid)

Besides the very high voltage battery (which is around 220V) that the hybrid car has, there is another startup battery to get the car engine on.

The location of the battery is different for different brands. Some located at the front, some located at the bottom of the seat, some located at the rear.

If the battery is located at the front, that is a good news. Not only you can check the battery model easily, the size of the battery is normally (or commonly) be found in the market.

But for those that located differently, it is cumbersome to find exactly the same size of the battery.



An example of the hybrid car used battery, which looks like a square size. But most commonly sold batteries are rectangle size in Hong Kong.


4. EU manufacture vehicle  (hybrid)

Haven't seen one yet.

(2 Dec 2024 update:)

1) Can I convert to EFB/AGM battery if I am using a normal battery?
Yes. But it does not necessary mean it is longer lasting than the normal one. Afterall, different people driver differently. Some might be longer lasting but some are not. If you are asking me how long can it last, I got a friend who had a 2009 Toyota Sienta used the battery for 5 years, and another one with more than 2 years and still using. However his other two vehicles only last within 2 years. All of them come for inspection at some specific time. Giving you a rough number is definitely not accurate at all.

In addition, almost all petrol Japanese vehicle are using JIS (japan) standard battery. Only EFB battery can be found in the market. If you are planning to change a DIS (europe standard) battery, I suggest not to.


2) Originally Equipped EFB battery, can it convert to AGM ?

Yes. But AGM is more epensive than EFB. It's not necessarily mean AGM is better than EFB for your use.


3) Originally equipped EFB, can it convert to normal battery?

Under some situations it can convert to normal battery but with everyday special maintenance.


4) Originally equipped AGM battery can it convert to EFB or normaly battery?

I dun know. I  never tried before.



The size of the battery market is small. Hence there are very few brands you could choose. With the increasing number of hybrid cars and different sizes required, there could be a day when there is only one or two brands available for you to choose.

再一次感謝Tyrehood顧客支持. 願意與Tyrehood 於輪胎市埸上作出改變. 我會一直更新並盡量研發更多既野於網站及手機程式上


Apps 內容都會盡量一直更新. 而今次黎緊既project, 就係我一開始就期望好快做到既野但係眼見要好啲時間去研究所以就冇繼續做到. 而家就先做啲簡單既野先.

Once again to thank Tyrehood customers support, and go with Tyrehood vision to improve the experience of the tire industry. I will keep updating the existing website and app in the future.

Besides updating the apps content, the upcoming project is something that I wanted to do since the beginning. Due to a long time spent in researching, this project was put on hold. And now, I have started to do something simple first.

I hope I could handle the chips to make the hardware for Tyrehood customers as soon as possible.

汽車電池 - 種類 Type of Automotive Battery

對於汽車電池, 您有幾熟悉?

汽車電池可以用到幾耐?

可以用幾長時間?

日本製或歐洲製就一定係最好?


未繼續答更多既問題之前, 首先大家都一定要知最基本既野, 就係到底有咩電池類別, 同埋應該揀邊一個類別.


總括黎講最常用既汽車電池分為三類別 - 普通電池, EFB電池, 同埋AGM電池.

(仲有另外兩款, Deep cycle 同埋 Lithium. 呢兩款就睇下會唔會遲啲再講)

另有三款分別為 Deep Cycle,  Lithium, 及 Gel

Deep Cycle 「深循環電池」或「深放電電池」係常用於船上. 當年 Tesla Model S 都有用 Deep Cycle 電池. 但最近得知之後有啲款開始, 已經由 deep cycle 改為其他款既電池.

Lithium 鋰電池 係出面比較多人聽到, 話特別好既電池, 話耐用. 係電動車未出現之前已經有傳. 但有冇諗過點解係汽油車時代都仲未通行? 但現時電動車時代都冇用黎做12V. 原因, 可以了解下您自己部手提電話就知道.

Gel 電池係電單車常用既電池. Gel 唔係 AGM 電池. 由於我從來冇見過, 所以我都唔知價錢同是否岩用於 Benz 的輔助電池


呢三款入面應該揀邊一款?

如果您部車係沒有iStop 功能(中文好似係叫 停車時自動熄匙功能), 就只需要用番普通電池就夠.

市面上現有的電池, 多數都係韓國製, 日本製, 歐洲製, 及印度制. (部分牌子已經有中國製)
普通電池當中, 也有兩款唔同既分別: -> Calcium () 料, 及 Silver ()料.

Calcium 料係現時比較普遍係電池當中, e.g. Eneus, Solite, Acdelco 等.... 簡寫為 CMF
Silver 料通常會見到係 Amaron, Varta 牌子. 

兩者之間對應唔同使用方法. 但Silver 就係其中一個原因點解令到個款電池特別貴啲. 所以有啲人一聽到 Amaron 係印度製既電池, 即時就黎左個偏見, 點解印度製既, 仲貴過韓國製..... 

之於兩者之間既分別.... 我就唔詳細係呢到講了.



如果係EFB或AGM電池, 電池上都會印有 EFB, AGM 既字眼. 所以好易認得出.


現時香港有9成幾既汽車用電池都係 "免維護(Maintenance Free)". 即係用家無需要去睇電池入面液體夠唔夠, 唔駛好似以前咁需要加蒸餾水.

私家車同van 仔用既電池都只會搵到"免維護", 除左部分貨車都仲可以買到水電. 不過對於個啲想買水電既車主, 有冇諗過唔係真係次次都俾您加到水就可以著番部車 ?

How well do you know automotive batteries in the market?

How long can it be last?

How long can it be used?

Those made in Japan or made in Europe are the best recommendation.... or is it?


Before coming into further questions, it is a basic to know what type of battery you actually need for your vehicle.


In general, there is 3 types commonly used for your vehicle - The standard battery, EFB, and AGM.

(There is another 2 types of batteries, deep cycle and Lithium which maybe explained in the future)

Let's make a quick explanation on another three types of battery that can also be found in the market. 

Deep Cycle battery is normally used in boat. Tesla Model S also used Deep Cycle battery. But hearing from customers that latest models are swapping deep cycle with other types of batteries.

Lithium batteries are rumored to be especially good and durable even before electric vehicle released. Yet, it is not commonly installed in petrol vehicle, and not even in electric vehicle as originally equipped for 12V. For the reason, you could check out your smartphone for it.

Gel battery normally used in motorcycle. Gel is not AGM battery. I have never seen one before so I do not know if it can be used in Benz as auxiliary battery.


So which one should you choose?

If your vehicle do NOT have an iStop function (idling stop function, which automatic switch off your engine when your vehicle comes to a stop), a standard battery is enough for your vehicle.

These type of batteries commonly made in Korea, Japan, India (with some brands already made in China)

There are two different materials built for normal battery: Calcium, and Silver.

Calcium is commonly found in battery. E.g. Eneus, Solite, Acdelco etc.... short form CMF.
Silver can be found in Amaron, Varta brand.

These two offers different uses. But silver is one of the reasons why the battery is a little more expensive.
And for those two differences, I am not going into detail.



It is also easy to classify the type of battery by looking at the labels. If it is a EFB or a AGM, there will be label imprinting on it. 


In these days, the way that automotive battery work is now known as "Maintenance Free", which implies users do not need to keep track of the liquid level of the battery. (unlike last time when you need to top up the battery using distilled water)

The after market batteries are all "Maintenance Free" except one or two brands available in Hong Kong market. However, those non Maintenance Free batteries are only available to Long Lorry vehicle and Truck. 


Battery inspection and other inspection service are only available to Tyrehood customers who at least pre-purchase two tyres and one battery (battery brands must be available on Tyrehood website such as Acdelco, Eneus, Solite etc).

Tyrehood is a tyre retail store at this moment. Therefore Tyrehood do not provide services such as oil changing which are provided by a garage.
